Gabe McIntosh's Godzilla

King of the Monsters

Gabe McIntosh's Godzilla Costume

Some residents of Morgan Hill, CA, were privileged to receive a visit from the King of the Monsters this past Halloween. Or at least, a very reasonable facsimile thereof. Artist and sculptor Gabe McIntosh created his own kaiju suit, and he reports that "the love I got from hundreds of Halloween revelers was unreal. EVERYBODY loves Godzilla. I took pictures with people for an hour."

CONSTRUCTION

How The Costume Was Built

I took a pair of mechanic’s coveralls and glued blocks of scavenged foam rubber to it and sculpted the body. I scavenged several blocks of packing foam, glued them together, sculpted the head, and hollowed it out to fit my own head inside it.

More blocks of cushion foam were glued together into a nine foot column to sculpt the tail. Then I glued foam to a pair of gloves and sculpted the hands, and glued foam to an old pair of sneakers and sculpted out each foot.

I sculpted teeth and claws and glued them into place. The fins were sculpted from thinner pieces of foam I managed to find, and I eventually had to buy some foam from the fabric store to finish them, as it took a whole lot.

Ten gallons of paint and a sound mechanism taken from my Far East Monsters ’68 Godzilla model completed the beast!

On Stage at Wondercon 2009

This is a montage of different videos from Wondercon 2009. Gabe took to the stage and wowed the audience with his Godzilla costume to the sweet sounds of Blue Öyster Cult’s classic song ‘Godzilla.’
