Jim Fazar's Godzilla Costume

Rochester New York U.S.A.
Sold in June of 2015
Building a 7 foot tall behemoth of a costume is a daunting task that can take a VERY long time to complete. It was early September 2005 when I started working. That left me less than 2 months before Halloween so to kick start this project I decided to take a week off of work. Yes, that’s commitment!

I wasn't able to complete it in time for the costume contest but I bided my time and finished it for the following year. Over the next ten years I took it to contests, work parties, Halloween parties and most importantly G-Fest in Chicago. Because of this costume I've made friends with people I'd never thought I'd meet and I'm so thankful that I did.

In 2018 I sold the costume to a German advertising company to be used in a travel agency commercial! See the video section below to watch.

Becoming Godzilla Podcast by Imaginary Worlds

This week’s episode features another monster who comes from the sea and represents an existential threat — but he’s just so lovable. Journalist Dave Serchuk and graphic designer Jim Fazar both discovered Godzilla as kids and talk about his enduring appeal. But Jim went a step further and built a full body Godzilla suit. He and his brother Ron tell the story of how becoming Godzilla turned out to be much trickier than they anticipated. Their final hurtle wasn’t Mothra or Rodan — it was a costume contest where fate seemed to conspire against them.
