The first method involved using the soldering iron to cut reptilian scales into the foam. This method was used only on the head and neck, and for a few good reasons. One was the sheer amount of foul, toxic smelling fumes released by the burnt foam, which was greatly unpleasant to breathe in (although having a fan right next to me did help. Another was that the process actually broke the soldering iron. Fortunately, the head was almost complete by this time, so I just had to finish off the scales using my fingers. Lastly, the process itself just took too long, at least for me.
